Laverne S. Hartsfield died peacefully at home on Thursday, November 24th. Born in Seymour, TX on April 29, 1928 to Albert and Lilly Shoopman, she was the third of their six children.

She married Melvin Jahnsen in 1945 and in 1947 they were blessed with their son, William (Bill) Charles Jahnsen.

In 1950, Laverne married Hurley H. Halsey, Jr. who became father to Bill, followed by Rex W. Halsey, Vanessa K. Halsey, and Dean P. Halsey. They celebrated 28 years of marriage before Hurley’s passing in 1980.

She married Melvin Jahnsen in 1945 and in 1947 they were blessed with their son, William (Bill) Charles Jahnsen.

In 1950, Laverne married Hurley H. Halsey, Jr. who became father to Bill, followed by Rex W. Halsey, Vanessa K. Halsey, and Dean P. Halsey. They celebrated 28 years of marriage before Hurley’s passing in 1980.

Laverne was an active member of Eastern Star for more than 40 years. It was there she met G.W. “Dub” Hartsfield, who invited her to take a ballroom dance class with him. They discovered quickly they were a great couple on and off the dance floor. They married in 1988, blending their five adult children and many grandchildren. Dub and Laverne were blessed to travel the U.S. for years as well as a memorable trip to Europe.

Survived by her husband G.W Hartsfield, sons William Jahnsen and wife Sue, Rex Halsey and wife Sue, Dean Halsey and wife Melody, and daughter Vanessa Whitmire and her husband John, as well as many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the team at Thrive Memory Care for their loving, attentive supprt.

Family will be receiving friends on Sunday, November 27, 2016 from 5:00pm to 7:00 pm at Memory Gardens Funeral Home. A Chapel Service will be held Monday, November 28, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Memory Gardens Funeral Home with Interment to follow at Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers the family, ask that donations be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
